Milanyog: frequently asked questions
Kundli Milan
How is the guna score calculated?
We calculate both charts from birth date, time and place using real planetary positions (sidereal zodiac, Lahiri ayanamsa, the standard in Indian panchangs). The Moon's sign and nakshatra give the 8 kootas of Ashtakoota milan: Varna 1, Vashya 2, Tara 3, Yoni 4, Graha Maitri 5, Gana 6, Bhakoot 7 and Nadi 8 - 36 in total. The AI does not calculate anything; it only explains the result.
How many gunas are needed for marriage?
Traditionally 18 or more out of 36 is acceptable, 25-32 is very good and above 32 excellent. But the total alone is not enough: an uncancelled Nadi or Bhakoot dosha matters more than a few points, and many 'low score' matches are workable when the sign lords are friends. The report explains which applies to you.
Is Nadi dosha always a problem?
No. Classical texts give exceptions: when both have the same rashi but different nakshatras, the same nakshatra but different rashis, or the same nakshatra in different padas, Nadi dosha is considered cancelled. We check these from your charts and say clearly whether the dosha applies.
Can you check manglik dosha?
Yes. We check Mars in the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th or 12th house from the lagna, the Moon and Venus for both people. If both are manglik, the dosha is traditionally considered matched. We also note common cancellations, such as Mars in its own or exalted sign. Lagna-based manglik needs an accurate birth time.
What if we don't know the exact birth time?
Guna milan uses the Moon, which moves slowly, so the score is usually still right without a time (unless the Moon changed nakshatra that day - we warn you when it is near a boundary). Lagna, houses and manglik from lagna need the time; the report tells you which parts are reliable.
Is kundli milan free?
Yes, the Guna Milan calculator below is free and unlimited, and you get one full written report free each day. For families checking many rishtas, a 30-day pass (₹199 / $5) gives unlimited full reports and revisions. No auto-renewal.
Is this North Indian or South Indian matching?
We use Ashtakoota (36 gunas), the system used in North, West and Central India and by most families abroad. South Indian Dashakoota (10 poruthams) uses many of the same factors; the report notes the important overlaps such as Rajju and Nadi, but a porutham chart is not included yet.
Do you recommend gemstones or pujas?
We don't sell anything. If a real dosha remains after exceptions, the report mentions simple traditional remedies as a matter of family faith. Please be careful of anyone who uses a dosha to frighten you into expensive services.
